MozartRacing delivers remarkable performance at the Rim despite DNF

MozartRacing took on the challenging roads in the Angeles National Forest around Palmdale, CA, in the Rim of the World SCCA ProRally, round 4 of the SCCA ProRally Championship. Driver, Wolfgang Hoeck, and Co-Driver, Julie Lin, delivered a remarkable performance in only their second rally. The MozartRacing team finished Friday's ClubRally in 11th overall and 5th place in Open Class, and was well on their way to finish in the top 15 overall on Saturday's leg of the rally. Unfortunately, one of the infamous waterbars took the team victim. MozartRacing had to retire on stage 12. Despite the mishap, MozartRacing is very pleased with the team's performance in the brand new car, a Grp.N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII, which had performed flawlessly all weekend long.

Classified now as Seed 5, after a great result in Oregon, MozartRacing started the rally in 41st position, out of a total of 78 competitors. Friday's stages were known from past events to be brutal to car and team, and proved to be exceptionally difficult this year as well. MozartRacing started rather defensively, yet still had to suffer excessive dust from competitors ahead on many of Friday night's stages. The team kept the car in good shape and completed the night event in 11th position overall among ClubRally competitors and 5th place in Open Class. There were better things to come on Saturday's stages.

Starting with the relief to have survived Friday's grueling roads, MozartRacing delivered spectacular driving on the spectator stage (posting 11th fastest time). DelSur South and North were completed with times in the top 15 of all competitors. Leona Ridge would have been an even better time, but the team was kept in the dust behind a competitor for more than half of the stage, still able to finish in 17th position. MozartRacing followed their performance in the next stage, Libre Mountain, with 11th fastest time overall. Stage 12, however, meant the end of a thus far exciting rally, having hit a waterbar at a speed too high for a safe landing. The car ended up in the brush of the Angeles National Forest and had to be towed back to service. Special thanks goes to MozartRacing's service crew, Scott and Petr, and Rhys Millen Racing's team for bailing the car out late into the night. The accident meant the first DNF (Did Not Finish) for the MozartRacing team.

In only their second rally, the MozartRacing team delivered an exciting performance, impressive to both competitors and spectators alike. The team is looking forward to be competing again later in the year after having repaired the damage on their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII rally car. The next possible event would be at the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, part of the SCCA ProRally series this year. Watch MozartRacing's website for more information on the team's next events.
